OXFORD – Oxford rebounded from its second loss of the season with its third double-digit scoring performance of the season on Thursday afternoon.
Julie Heggie hit a three-run homer in the third inning finishing 2-for-3 with five RBI and three stolen bases. Lacey Barry had three hits, three stolen bases, and four runs scored, while Jackie Heggie pitched five innings of relief striking out nine and walking just one for the win.
"We just need to keep the bats alive, no matter who the pitcher is," said Oxford coach Margo Barrows. "(On defense), when they had runners on base, we made the plays we needed to make."
Ashley Mannina had two hits for Unatego in the loss.

SHERBURNE – Facing perennial league contender Canastota, Sherburne-Earlville held the visitors in check for most of the game, but struggled to find its own offense in a shutout defeat Thursday.
Emily Harp was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead Canastota, Alicia Hibbard had two hits and two ribbies, and Alexis Havens went 3-for-4.
"They are a very good team, and this wasn't bad for us," said S-E assistant coach Sheila Cooman. "We have a young team with a lot of new faces, and we played pretty well defensively."
Nikki Button had a single in the sixth inning for S-E to break up a no-hit bid by Canastota twirler, Jessica Patterelli.

OXFORD – Cody Chambers hit a three-run homer and finished 4-for-6 at the plate leading Unatego to a comfortable win over Oxford Thursday.
Cody Komenda had three hits and three RBI for the Spartans, and Quinn Barnhardt went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Unatego banged out 18 hits in the game, and Dan Shelton pitched five shutout innings to earn the victory.
"Unatego has a few younger players this year, but year in and year out, they are right there in our league," said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. "They have a good program and good coaching staff."
Oxford hosts Afton today.

SHERBURNE – Canastota scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away for good and defeat Sherburne-Earlville on the Marauders' opening league game of the season.
Ryan Mitchell had two triples for Canastota, who took advantage of four S-E errors and seven base on balls. "We were a little shaky the first time out," said S-E coach Brian Hicks. "Canastota hit the ball so well in key situations. A walk and an error followed by a triple, and everyone (on the basepaths) is gone."
Matt Piazzi had a three-run triple in the second inning for S-E to tie the game at 3-3. Cory Musician and Joe Moses added two hits apiece.
S-E plays at Hamilton Saturday.
