Otselic Valley Drama Club to present Aida, School Edition
OTSELIC – The Otselic Valley Drama Club will present Aida, School Edition at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Saturday in the high school multi-purpose room. Expect the unexpected as this large cast and crew act, sing, and dance, taking you back in time, engaging you in a story that easily melds into today.
Aida is a timeless love story set in Egypt about 3,500 years ago. Radames, (Daniel Larkin) an Egyptian captain, who is betrothed to Amneris, (Kaity Davis) an Egyptian princess, falls in love with Aida, (Bethany Lewis) a captured Nubian slave, who just happens to be a Nubian princess. This forbidden love triangle ends tragically but results in the warring nations coming to peace.
Disney’s Aida is of epic proportions and is brought to life by the music and lyrics of Elton John and Tim Rice with the book by Linda Woolverton. The music lends a wonderful mix of up-beat pop music juxtaposed with the cultures of two ancient lands.
Aida is complete with villains, Zoser, (Dusty Davis) Radames’ father, and his band of ministers, (Michael Larkin, Brent Rasmussen, Alan Lewis, Ryan Day, and Steven Beesmer) plot to poison Pharaoh, (Nate Stark) opening the door for the transfer of power. The star-struck Amneris, who sees her wardrobe as “My Strongest Suite” faces inheriting the throne from the poisoned and dying Pharaoh. Radames admonishes his father’s ambitions, “Like Father, Like Son,” professing his love and admiration for Aida’s forthright courage. Amneris witnesses Aida and Radames pledge their love for each other but chooses to continue with the wedding, “I Know the Truth.” Aida forsakes her love for Radames and accepts the robe of her people. This seals her fate and is destined to sacrifice herself for their freedom.
All tickets are $5.
