Proposed local law would restrict where sex offenders can live
NORWICH – A public hearing has been scheduled for a proposed local law that would establish residency and proximity restrictions in Chenango County for sex offenders.
The legislation was offered by Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting as what he called “a campaign promise” during his bid for election to the position last summer. It would target sex offenders who have committed criminal offenses against minors.
There was no discussion preceding the Chenango County Board of Supervisor’s decision to set the date for a public hearing. The hearing is scheduled for 11 am. May 10 in the Supervisors’ Chambers of the County Office Building in Norwich.
