6OTS presents local photographer Kathleen Coates
OXFORD – 6 On The Square (6OTS) announces the opening of its second solo art exhibit of the 2010 season. With a formal opening reception this Friday from 5-7 p.m., local photographer Kathy Coates will present two dozen of her photographs, depicting country life and the spirit of America through her camera lens.
A “slice of life” for Coates is everything from joyful family activities and sublime Chenango County landscapes, to somber views of “Ground-Zero”, the space once occupied by the Twin Towers in New York City.
“The perspective you receive while photographing is that nothing lasts forever.” – Kathy Coates.
Coates, a life long Norwich resident, is a self taught photographer. Her interest in photography stretches back to childhood. She specializes in black and white photography, because it allows her to “capture the moment and make it timeless.” While many have embraced the digital age, Kathy enjoys the challenge of film. She said, “What you see in a film photograph is real, untouched, and innocent.”
Growing up with twelve siblings has given her a unique perspective on life. Her husband and three children also provide the love and support necessary to pursue her photographic interests.
The opening reception will be on Friday from 5-7 p.m. Meet the artist who will be on hand to answer any questions. Coates’ work will be on display until June 2. Doors are open one hour before and during performances.
For inquiries contact John Knapp, 6 On The Square’s gallery coordinator. Phone: 843-OTS6 (6876). Visit 6OTS on the web - www.6onthesquare.org - to view performance schedules.
