Semi-pro game to benefit Peraza scholarship
NORWICH – Monday, May 22, the Watertown Revolution will face the Delaware County Rattlers in a semi-pro football game under the lights on the field turf at Norwich High School.
Watertown is coached by 1990 Norwich High School graduate Ron Whiting, a three-year player on the Norwich varsity football team from 1987-1989. The game, Whiting said, is a fundraiser for the Robert D. Peraza Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a graduating Norwich senior who plans to attend a SUNY school after graduation.
Peraza was a two-year player on the 1987 and 1988 NHS football teams, and a 1989 NHS graduate. Peraza was working for Cantor-Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, and died during the attacks on the WTC.
The Watertown Revolution is in its third season and competes in the Northeastern Football Alliance. Too, Delaware County is a member of the NFA and in its inaugural season. Each team will begin league play on June 12,
Game time is 7 p.m. and admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children ages 13 and under. Concessions will be provided by the Norwich PTA, and all proceeds of the game will go toward the scholarship fund.
