Greene wins behind strong pitching of Kinne

Baseball

Greene 2, Delhi 0
GREENE – Greene senior Brendan Kinne used just 69 pitches to throw a complete-game two-hit shutout in Tuesday’s clash with MAC division opponent Delhi.
Kinne struck out three, walked two, and was buoyed by his defense. The Trojans completed two double plays, and did not commit an error. “Brendan was really in the zone,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “He had great control tonight. He threw hard, threw strikes, and had enough of a breaking ball to keep the hitters off balance.”
In the fifth, the Trojans (7-2) plated two unearned runs for Kinne. Matt Jones and Kinne reached safely on errors, and Alex Kenyon doubled home each baserunner.

In the first matchup, Delhi loss all three matches in singles. The Trojans (5-4) flipped all three of those losses, and the only lineup change was moving Evan Engler from first doubles to third singles.

Ethan Buhl, Brett Hennessey, and Evan Engler won at first, second, and third singles respectively. Greene faces B-G on Thursday.

Track and Field

Norwich splits with Maine-Endwell
NORWICH – Norwich’s boys had four wins from Kyle Acenowr, three from Patrick Taylor, and two individual wins from Max Morse to defeat Maine-Endwell, 78-63 in Tuesday’s track and field meet at Norwich High School.
Acenowr swept the 100- and 200-meter dashes, took part in the winning 1,600-meter relay, and captured the high jump. Taylor, coming off a win in the long jump at the Owego Invitational last weekend, took that event again, placed first in the long jump, and had one leg of the winning 400-meter relay. Morse was victorious in the pole vault and 800 meters. “Considering the weather conditions, the times and distances weren’t that bad today,” said Norwich boys coach, Paul Sims. “The sprints had a little bit of a tailwind, and they were the only events that had a little bit of an advantage.”
Norwich’s 400-meter relay participants, Sarah Bonnell, Katie Benenati, Cleo Daoud, and Elisha Eddy, picked up a win in that event, and each NHS competitor also had at least one more individual victory in an 82-59 loss to the Spartans.
Bonnell padded her win totals taking the 100 meters, long jump, and triple jump; Benenati was first in the 100-meter hurdles; Daoud the 400 meters, and Eddy the shot put.
Norwich hosts the 5th Annual REK Invitational Saturday at 6 p.m. Sims said nine schools, including Norwich, are expected to attend.
