Permit for Denny’s restaurant signs approved

NORWICH – On Thursday, city officials received payment for, and approved, a permit for the construction of the front and rear signs for a purported Denny’s restaurant, which would be located in the space formerly occupied by Studebaker’s Classic Grill and Pub in the Howard Johnson hotel.

Although renovation and lease details have yet to be finalized, Mayor Joe Maiurano and prospective Denny’s Operating Officer Abu Worshed seemed confident the franchise, known for its 24-hour service, is on its way downtown.

Howard Johnson General Manager Dana Meyer, in a January interview, stated that “the rumor about Denny’s is true,” and she thought it would “be good for the community.”

“Denny’s is a well known brand and I think it will do well,” she added at the time.
