‘Paint the County Purple’ an unprecedented success
NORWICH – This year’s Paint the County Purple Day, a local offshoot of the American Cancer Society’s Paint the Town Purple Day, was an unprecedented success throughout the county, according to Chenango Relay For Life Chairperson Marie DeSarro.
“I received a lot of feedback from local businesses and organizations throughout the day, letting me know that they were celebrating Paint the County Purple in one way or another,” stated DeSarro. “Many dressed in purple at their place of employment and some businesses who aren’t even involved with a specific team still participated.”
Participants this year included Norwich Pharmaceuticals, the Tax Department at the Chenango County Office Building, NBT, Cars & Credit, Unison, the ambulatory sSurgical team at Chenango Memorial Hospital, the D & D Diner, Gilligan’s Island, Frontier Communications, Preferred Mutual Insurance, Unadilla Valley Central Schools, the Smyrna Market and more, reported DeSarro.
“I definitely saw the word stretch further into the county this year,” said DeSarro. “I know we’ve started to reach the corners of the county through the promotion of this day.”
Some area businesses got creative by flying balloons and flags, or streamers on their cars, while others participated internally, decorating their workspace with purple flowers or other paraphernalia, said DeSarro.
“I’m really excited to see that Paint the County Purple has grown and that people are taking the day and using it to promote, create awareness and raise funds for the Chenango Relay For Life,” stated DeSarro.
The Chenango Relay For Life will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. on July 16 and 17 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds. For more information, visit relayforlife.org/chenangocountyny.
