Norwich boys and girls win
NORWICH – In a meet rescheduled from Tuesday, Norwich’s boys and girls earned a STAC Central Division sweep of Owego at home yesterday afternoon.
Norwich held close in the track events and dominated the field competitions as the boys topped Owego, 81-60, and the girls edged the Indians, 73-68.
NHS’s girls were in a 13-point hole on the track, but made that up finishing one-two in the long jump and triple jump, while also taking at least two of the top three spots in every field event.
“The field events are really making the difference in the meets,” said Norwich boys track and field coach, Paul Sims.
Sarah Bonnell fell just short of the school record in the long jump. Bonnell had a career-best 17-6 1/2, just a half-inch off the NHS record. Bonnell added three other wins taking the 100-meter dash, and also teaming on two relays.
Kyle Acenowr had two individual wins for the NHS boys winning the 100- and 400-meter races. Patrick Taylor had a personal best of 20-11 in the triple jump. Norwich padded its advantage sweeping the discus and shot put. Damian Marvin was tops in the discus, and Trey Ostrom won the shot.
“I like PRs (personal records), and for a lot of our kids, the main focus is to set personal records,” Sims said.
Norwich competes in the Sherburne-Earlville Invitational on Friday.
