4-H Livestock and Rabbit Scholarship Winners

NORWICH – The annual 4-H Livestock Scholarship Program was established to help promote and encourage Chenango County youth to become involved in raising and marketing meat and fiber producing animals. Over the past 4 years, 20 youth have benefited from this program, receiving 32 project animals, such as beef steers, lambs, kids, and hogs.
Animals have been awarded that are for market and for breeding. Market animals are sold at the annual 4-H Livestock Auction in August while breeding animals are used to increase a member’s herd or flock with an offspring donated back to the program to be given to another deserving 4-Her.
The 2010 winners are:
Hogs – Megan, Micaela, and Katelynn Brandt (McDonough)
Meat Goat – Justin Graham (South Otselic)
Thank you to the sponsors of this year’s scholarship animals – Mark and Nickey Cummings (Oxford), The Fairchild Family (Columbus), and Megan Brandt (McDonough).
The annual 4-H Rabbit Scholarship Program was established by a local 4-H Family, the Abrams of South New Berlin, to promote the development of purebred rabbit projects by Chenango County 4-H’ers. This program as awarded 2 rabbits the past 3 years to 4-H members. The 2010 winner is Aidan Nolan (McDonough) who received a Dutch rabbit from the Abrams Family.
