NHS concert tonight

NORWICH – The Norwich High School music department will be holding its final concert of the year tonight at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
The program will feature the school’s bands, choirs, string ensemble and symphony orchestra. The string ensemble will be performing Mozart’s Finale from Serenade # 9 “Posthorn” and Tchaikowsky’s “Elegy from Serenade for Strings.” The combined concert and symphonic bands will perform James Curnow’s “Nathan Hale Trilogy” and Shostakovich’s “Galop from Moscow, Cheremushky.” The Jazz Ensemble will perform “On Green Dolphin Street” and the theme from “Family Guy.” The mixed choir will perform Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and the treble choir is performing Cynthia Gray’s “Afternoon on a Hill.” The madrigal singers will perform Rollo Dilworth’s “Take Me to the Water” and there will be a special selection by the NHS barbershop quartet, “Mister Moon.”
As it has become an annual event, all choir alumni are invited to join in the final choir selection “River in Judea.” To cap the evening of,f the symphony orchestra will perform selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera.”
“We also invite everyone to help us honor our graduating senior musicians at the end of the program,” said department chair Mark Sands.
There is no admission charge for this concert and the entire community is invited to attend. For more information call 334-1600 ext. 1343.
