Florida woman killed in Friday accident
SHERBURNE – A woman was killed Friday after the car she was driving struck a delivery truck in the Town of Sherburne.
New York State Police reported that Carol L. Thoma, 69, of Tallahassee, Fla., suffered serious injuries after her car struck a delivery truck at about 3:15 p.m. along New York State Route 80 between the intersections of West Hill Road and County Rd. 14. Investigators reported that she was flown to Syracuse by the Lifenet of New York helicopter, but later succumbed to her injuries while at the hospital.
Troopers are still investigating the incident and have not yet released any details or issued any tickets.
Sherburne Fire Chief Patrick Lawrence said Thoma was pulled from her vehicle by a passing motorist and was in critical condition Friday evening.
Chenango Emergency Management Officer A. Wesley Jones said Rt. 80 was closed down for several hours following the collision until about 10 p.m. as police reconstructed the accident and emergency crews worked to clear the roadway.
Jones said the delivery vehicle’s driver, Wayne C. Partelow, 56, of Hamilton, was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital by Cooperstown Medical Transport.
