Sherburne plans biggest fireworks display yet for the 4th

SHERBURNE – Some say the place to be for fireworks on Sunday is Paddleford Park, where the Sherburne Lion’s Club will host its seventh annual July 4th celebration.
The club’s colorful, bright and booming display was doubled last year and will be again this year, according to organizers. “It’s a huge display,” said co-chairman Ken VanWagner.
The festivities, which begin at 11 a.m. and are free, include live music and a chicken barbecue, hamburgers and other picnic foods available all day. There will be a Little League baseball tournament and girl’s softball games, also. Two pavilions are on site for dining.
As in the past, popular singer/songwriter Cassidy Lynn kicks off the Lion’s Club celebration of live music. Back home after recent performances in Nashville, Lynn mixes the simplicity of classic country music and the honest lyrics of her own life stories into a unique, contemporary sound.
Solar Funk Society, featuring local musicians Shelly Harris and Mark Sherwood, will play their mix of R&B, Motown, disco, dance and rock sounds from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
At 6 p.m., its Emilee Smith, an up-and-coming 15-year-old singer songwriter from Smyrna. The versatile rock band, Renegade Band, follows and closes out the night of performances, playing into the beat of the fireworks which begin at dusk.
