DVD Patrol

Watch the goal, Patrollers! The gang at the DVD Patrol were all glued to the World Cup matches this past week but the top goalie himself, the Toddster, had to throw some things around the office so we could put together some good movies for you. We hope everyone enjoyed our sequel special last week and there are some special columns on the way. More details on that later. Get ready for the wind-up because here we go!

New on DVD

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief - There are people in the world who feel they were meant for more in life. Percy (Logan Lerman) was one such person. Based on the best selling book series, Percy and his mother lived their lives the best they could but there was always that feeling of something more. He also felt at home in the water and always wondered about his father but never really could find out much. Be careful what you wish for because he comes to find out that he’s really the son of Poseidon (Kevin Mckidd). A war is about to tear the heavens apart because Zeus’s (Sean Bean) thunderbolts has been stolen and Percy has been blamed for it. Now the gods want Percy’s head on a platter. Can he find the missing thunderbolts and prove his innocence or do the heavens come raining down? A possible sequel may be in the works my sources tell me. Stay tuned!

Hot Tub Time Machine - What if you had the chance to go back in time and change your life so you won’t make the same mistakes again? Adam (John Cusack), Lou (Rob Condry), Nick (Craig Robinson), and Jake (Clark Duke) decide to go back to the ski resort where they partied back in the day. The guys tend to remember better times and always wonder what would happen if history would repeat itself. They just might get their chance when a weird repairman (Chevy Chase) arrives to service their hot tub and it turns out to be a time machine that sends them back to 1985. Are our heroes going to be able to change their fates for the better? Another movie along the same lines is “Grown-Ups” with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider where they play a bunch of friends who come together after 20 years now in theaters.

Also on DVD

She’s Out Of My League - Who says that an average guy can’t get the girl of his dreams? Kirk (Jay Baruchel) leads a pretty good life but his lovelife could use a little bit of work. Working at the airport, he meets all kinds of people. Then, along comes Molly (Alice Eve). Molly had everything going for her but she is looking for something different. When fate steps in and she loses her phone, Molly meets Kirk. She couldn’t be more pleased at getting it back and offers a night out on the town to thank Kirk for helping her out. Kirk’s friends and family can’t believe his luck. Will Kirk be able to hold on to Molly? Baruchel has a big movie coming in July when he stars with Nicholas Cage in “The Sorceror’s Apprentice.”

The Green Zone - From the creators of “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum,” Matt Damon returns to action. Roy Miller (Damon) was a soldier who always followed orders. Miller and his men are sent into Iraq looking for Weapons of Mass Destruction but keep coming up empty handed. Roy meets an CIA Operative (Greg Kinnear) who may have some information into where they might be. The more he keeps digging, Roy learns that the truth may cost him more then he wants to pay because the truth is not something anyone wants brought to light. Is Miller going to be able find the truth or is it too late? Damon has a number of projects on the way including an action thriller called “The Adjustment Bureau” and a new western with Jeff Bridges called “True Grit” coming soon.

Warehouse 13 - TV Spotlight has an all new one from the Syfy Channel with Season 1 coming to DVD. You always wonder if there was a place the Government sent things found from strange encounters. That’s where Warehouse 13 comes in. The Warehouse happens to be a storage facility where unexplained things go on and objects are stored. In the Pilot episode, Federal Agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) team up to foil an assassination plot and get promoted. Well, kinda. They get sent to Warehouse 13 where they meet Artie (Saul Rubinek) who is the caretaker and he sends them to gather up objects that can do incredible things. Pete and Myka are sent after an artifact that make people go mad. Can they find it before another victim is hurt? Season 2 airs on the Syfy Channel on Friday at 9 p.m..

I hope everyone has a great July 4 weekend. Before we go, a special all review column is on the way with our next Toddster teamup honoring Clint Eastwood. More DVDs heading to the Patrol so join us right back here next time. The Toddster salutes you!
