Bainbridge teen drowns in Susquehanna River
BAINBRIDGE – The New York State Police reported the drowning death of a 16-year-old Bainbridge girl Tuesday evening after she was swept beneath the waters of the Susquehanna River while swimming with her brother.
Police confirmed that Rhoda Stoltzfus, of 2702 State Highway 7, Bainbridge, was swimming in the river located just behind her home with an older sibling when she was pulled by a strong current into deeper water.
Troopers said the victim’s brother was also pulled into the current, but was able to swim to safety.
