United Way makes plans for 'Day of Caring'
NORWICH – Calling out to all community volunteers! Save the date: Sept. 25, 2010 as the Chenango United Way announces its 4th Annual Day of Caring campaign kick-off event. Everyone is welcome to join one of the year’s biggest volunteer movements to happen within Chenango County. The Day of Caring reaches out to our county’s businesses, families and youth groups to carry out pre-requested volunteer work that is greatly needed within our community. Last year’s United Way Day of Caring reached over 29 site projects countywide and more than 170 volunteers participated with over 1,000 in donated in volunteer hours. The volunteer teams consisted of local employee groups, family teams and other area residents that came together and united for the greater good of our community.
This year’s Chenango United Way Day of Caring Volunteer Event and Kick-Off Rally will be held at the Norwich Fire Station. On the morning of this year’s Day of Caring, the Chenango United Way will begin the day by hosting a breakfast-time volunteer rally and campaign kick-off. All volunteer teams will come together for community fellowship and to prepare for departure to their assigned project sites. At this event, the United Way will also be collecting personal care and hygiene items (such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper, deodorant) for distribution to area food pantries. After the breakfast, all the volunteer teams will work to complete volunteer work requests at each designated site around the county. In the past, community projects have included painting, building maintenance, preparation of food packets for food pantries, light yard work and gardening and cleaning. The Day of Caring event is a fantastic way for people to get involved with their community and make great change ... all in one day!
Families with children, individuals and corporate teams are encouraged to get involved this year. To receive a Project Request Form for your Chenango County non profit organization, community park, library, or volunteer fire department or to participate as a volunteer in the Chenango United Way Day of Caring Event, contact United Way Campaign Director: Rebecca O’Connor at 334-8815 or you can visit our website www.chenangouw.org for any additional information and registration forms.
