Pedestrian air lifted after being hit in city intersection
NORWICH – A 21-year-old Norwich woman was hit in the area of a crosswalk in the City of Norwich Sunday night and airlifted to Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City with serious injuries.
The Norwich Police Department said Jennifer Murray of Norwich was crossing North Broad Street at the Cortland Street intersection at about 9:23 p.m. when a maroon 2000 Monte Carlo driven by 28-year-old Paul DeWitt struck her near or in the crosswalk.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident, but said alcohol was believed not to be a factor. An eyewitness at the scene said following the accident, DeWitt remained on scene with his vehicle and attempted to aid the injured woman.
