Oxford, UV II sew up playoffs spots

GREENE – Oxford rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the seventh inning to score four runs and clinch second place in Division A – and a playoff spot – in the Otsenango Pony League on Monday.
An error and a walk led to Justin Schray’s two-run triple to close the margin to one run. Andrew Golden plated Schray on a fielder’s choice in which Schray beat the throw home to knot the game. Golden reached on the play, and later scored the go-ahead run on Jeff Lawton’s bloop basehit down the third base line.
Golden, pitching in relief of starter Justin Schray, tossed a scoreless seventh inning as Oxford earned a return bid to the league playoffs. Oxford (7-3) plays at Division D champion Schenevus, Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Unadilla Valley II 9, Cobleskill II 4
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley II, a 14-and-under team, improved to 5-3 on the season and clinched the second playoff spot in Division D of the Otsenango Pony League winning at home Monday against Cobleskill II.
Mason Alford and Brendan Booker combined on a no-hitter with Alford throwing the first four innings.
Alford was also 3-for-4 with two RBI, Will Martin had a double and two runs scored, and Austin Lewis drove in a pair of runs.
Two errors and base on balls over the first three innings led to Cobleskill’s runs.
UV II plays at Norwich on Thursday in the first round of the league playoffs. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
