Independence Party endorses Hanna
ALBANY – Richard Hanna, fresh from a campaign trip to Norwich where he attended the Republican Party’s Lobsterfest, has won endorsement from the New York State Independence Party.
Hanna is in the race for the state’s 24th Congressional District of the U.S. Congress, a seat currently held by Democrat Michael Arcuri of Utica.
“Richard's ideas and values are perfectly in step with the party's vision on what is needed in the country and our state," stated Independence Party Chairman Frank MacKay in a statement issued Monday.
Specifically, Hanna’s stance on term limits and initiative and referendum won him the party’s support. Vice-Chairman John Dote said Hanna’s approach to issues is “direct and refreshing, unlike the usual spin you get from career politicians.”
“We look forward to a successful campaign to change the direction of a broken Washington,” Dote said.
Hanna attended Lobsterfest with his son, Emerson Hanna, and traveled to Norwich from Barneveld in his 1950 pickup truck. The candidate lost to Arcuri in his first bid for Congress two years ago. He told supporters on Sunday that he felt “more prepared” for the campaign this go around.
“I am confident that I am the only true independent candidate in this race who will represent Independence Party members and independent voters throughout the district,” he said.
