Road work in Oxford this summer

OXFORD – Village of Oxford officials are alerting residents of road work which will be taking place in the coming weeks.
“(We) will be placing a slurry seal topcoat on several streets,” explained Oxford Mayor Terry Stark. Streets affected will be South Washington Avenue, Chenango Street, Scott Street, Taylor Street, Merchant Street and Mechanic Street.
“It is expected this will be a three-day project with streets on the east side of the river completed on day one, west side streets on day two and South Washington Ave. from Lafayette Park to Alice Street on day three,” Stark said.
The Village of Oxford’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will notify property owners with door hangers 24 hours prior to the day of the street work, as the village itself will only receive limited notice in advance of the work.
“We expect it to be between now and Labor Day, but again we have no certain date,” the mayor reported. “We are at the mercy of the contractor and the contractor is as the mercy of the weather.”
According to Stark, vehicle traffic may be restricted for up to 24 hours on each of the affected streets to allow for the work to be done. As a result, some residents may need to find alternate parking for one night, he said.
Property owners should also take note not to blow grass clippings onto the streets. Not only will it negatively effect the slurry seal, he explained, but also clogs storm drains and can result in street flooding.
Stark encourages any resident with questions or concerns to contact the DPW at 843-8837.
