Fox reality show dancer has ties to Norwich

NORWICH – West Palm Beach native Billy Bell, who as a child visited Norwich numerous times over the years, received something that rarely comes around in today’s competitive television industry – a second chance.
An all-new 2-hour episode broadcast at 8 tonight will find Bell competing for a spot in the top 4 on the popular FOX Broadcasting Company dancing showcase “So You Think You Can Dance?” yet this isn’t Bell’s first opportunity to shine on the nationally televised program.
According to Tina Favorito, a longtime Chenango County resident and Bell’s aunt, the 20-year-old dancing phenom had previously competed on the show, in Season 6, where he reached the top 20 before being forced to withdraw due to a serious illness.
Now Bell is back, and Favorito couldn’t be more proud.
“We’re all extremely proud of him,” said Favorito, who added her nephew has a number of relatives in Chenango County. “He’s doing so good, he’s just a great dancer.”
Bell will compete once again tonight, and America will have a chance to vote, as he continues his quest for the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
The results of the vote will be broadcast at 9 p.m. on Thursday and the stakes couldn’t be higher – this week two contestants will go home.
“I vote at least a thousand times a night,” joked Favorito, who said Bell first began dancing around the age of 10 and loved to watch the dancers from the Amber Perkins School of Art perform whenever he visited Norwich.
Out of thousands only six remain, and Favorito finds that feat alone extremely remarkable.
“He’s chasing his dream,” stated Favorito. “So many people out there never take that chance.”
After tomorrow night, Bell’s family, and America, will find out if his dream still has a chance to come true.
