Greene Historical Society to show rare films Saturday

GREENE – Greene’s annual Labor Day picnic has been a community tradition for more than 90 years. Now – thanks to what the Greene Historical Society is calling “the find of the century” – area residents will have the rare opportunity to get a glimpse of the event when it was in its heyday.

The find consists of four, 16 mm films documenting Greene’s Labor Day event from 1935 to 1939, which were gifted to the museum earlier this year. The films will shown at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Moore Memorial Library, Genesee Street in Greene. According to Sharon Davis of the Greene Historical Society, the event will be presented as a matinee, with popcorn and soda being served.
