Cyclones start season with two wins

NORWICH – The Norwich Cyclones opened their 2010 season Sunday at Alumni Field winning two of three games.

The “A” team ended the day topping North Utica, 30-12. Matt Craig reached paydirt early in the first with a 10-yard run on his first carry as a Cyclone running back. John Marvin recovered the ensuing kickoff at the Raiders’ 18 yard line with Tristan Rifanburg taking it into the end zone from three yards out.

Two minutes later, John Marvin added a third first-quarter score with a 14-yard run. Marvin added a dazzling 55-yard scamper in the second and Rifanburg scored on a 13-yard TD run in the second to end the Cyclones’ scoring.

Marvin, John Predmore, Jordan Vinal, Wyatt Ashcraft, Rifanburg, Nick Murphy, Craig, Spencer Stone, Kevin Porack led the defense, with Jon Manwarren coming up with an interception.

The Cyclone “B” team fell 14-8 in a hard-fought contest with V.V.S. (Vernon-Verona-Sherrill).
