HAMILTON – It was a step in the right direction for the Sherburne-Earlville field hockey team, who earned a tie with Hamilton Wednesday in the Marauders’ season-opening game.

S-E dropped both games to the Emerald Knights a season ago when it won just three games. “We did some really good things,” Cooman said. “Our one goal had perfect execution – just how you draw it up.”

Down 1-0 to Hamilton, S-E tied it with 6:07 left in the first half. Michelle Mackey and Kirstie Hackett made pinpoint passes off a penalty corner to Ashley Cappadonia, who drilled the shot past the Hamilton goalie.

Katherine Robertson made 12 saves for S-E to help preserve the tie.

The Marauders host Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Friday at 6 p.m. in the first round of S-E’s field hockey tournament. The consolation game and finals are Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. respectively.
