YMCA Scholarship ride rescheduled for Sunday

NORWICH – Sunday will be “Take Two” for the Second annual Norwich Family YMCA’s Open Door Scholarship Fund Ride. The event, sponsored jointly by the American Legion Riders from the Lt. Warren Eaton American Legion Post 189 in Norwich and the Norwich Fire Department’s Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club, was initially scheduled for last weekend, but inclement weather has prompted the organizers to set a rain date.

According to organizer Jerry Reyes, Sunday’s scattered showers weren’t enough to deter a few die-hard Y supporters. A small number of bikes “braved the elements” on Sept. 12 to raise money for the scholarship fund, he explained.

“Hopefully the weather will be better (this Sunday) and we will raise just as much if not more,” Reyes said, in a note he sent to those who participated in the ride.

Registration for the event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19 in front of the Norwich YMCA, 68-70 North Broad Street in Norwich. The cost to participate is $20 for each rider and $5 for each additional passenger. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.
