Halberg named America East rookie of the week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Binghamton University's Luke Halberg (Norwich/Valley Heights Christian Academy) accomplished something no Bearcats freshman had done in nearly six years taking home America East Conference Rookie of the Week honors.
Halberg nearly led the Bearcats’ men’s soccer team to an upset over nationally-ranked Penn State last Sunday. The freshman forward scored his first two career goals in Binghamton’s 4-3 loss to the No. 15-ranked Nittany Lions. With his team trailing 2-0 in the first half, Halberg brought the Bearcats to within one with a score in the 28th minute. His second goal tied the contest at 3-3 with 21 minutes remaining. Halberg’s two-goal performance was Binghamton’s first by a freshman since Adam Chavez accomplished the feat in 2004.
"I thought we played better as the weekend went on," said BU head coach Paul Marco after the Penn State game. "Luke was fantastic today.”
Halberg is the all-time leading scorer at Valley Heights Christian Academy.
