Norwich gridders play at Vestal tonight

Averaging just six points a game through the first two weeks, Norwich continues its non-league string to start the season tonight at Vestal’s Dick Hoover Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. The contest was moved from its original Friday date as the Vestal school district is observing the holy Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur this weekend, and no sports activities are scheduled.

“Their board of education met, and decided to recognize Yom Kippur,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “It was something that was out of our hands.”

Unlike Norwich, Vestal has had little trouble putting points on the board. In week one, the Golden Bears blew out 2009 Class B champion Waverly, 41-14, and last week, earned an impressive 20-14 victory over Binghamton.
