Clachan Coffee House expands under new ownership
OXFORD – It’s the same ol’ “grind” but the “joe” has a new barista. In other words, Oxford’s coffee house, Clachan, is under new ownership, the Klein family. Stop in, at 8 LaFayette Park, and say “hi” to Jo, her husband Terry and their teenage son Casey. Clachan has been a comfortable, social hub in Oxford where “everybody knows your name.” Will new ownership change things?
Never fear java-lovers, they will continue to carry gourmet roasted coffee beans from the Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters, fresh ground daily at Clachan. They will still brew rich flavors like “Jamaican Me Crazy” with its cinnamon-rum-pecan taste and “Snickerdoodle,” Casey’s favorite. As usual, they will be making espresso beverages, hot, cold or frozen, as well as frozen fruit smoothies, Italian sodas, chai and assorted gourmet teas. They’ll still have a variety of -fresh daily- baked pastries provided by a local bakery. So what’s new? The Kleins only want to take what was very good and ‘fine tune it’ by expanding on some things.
You can look forward to new space in the back to expand seating availability including a small quiet corner for those who want to “get away from it all” or just get on their laptop. (Yes, they have wi-fi.) They will be expanding their menu too. It will include light lunch fare like French dip or bagel sandwiches, salads, and hearty soups with breads. They’re expanding their hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except on Thursdays, they’ll be open even later … until 8 p.m. They’ve also created a personal area for customers’ mugs to give the place a home-like feel.
With the later hours on Thursdays, groups and clubs may find it convenient to meet at Clachan. The Oxford café is also now available to rent for meetings/events.
Souvenirs for Oxford lovers have even expanded. They will still carry Oxford mugs from Stongstone Pottery and “Joey’s Italian” cookbook by Joey DeCuffa, whose restaurants are known for their delicious Italian food. (His wife Janice is from Oxford!) You will find a broader assortment of Oxford shirts, hoodies, pullovers, and zip-ups plus there are very nice black and red Oxford Blackhawks scarves. Ask about other gift items too.
As it says on their Facebook page (under Clachan-Coffee-House), “We bring people together! Good coffee, good conversation, affordable ‘therapy!’”
“Just remember,” laughed barista Jo Klein, “I don’t come with a cuppa joe!”
Located on the park between Bartle’s Pharmacy and 6 On The Square; Clachan, it's a short walk from nearly anywhere. For info, call 843-8413.
