Cyclones win two of three
NORWICH – The Norwich Cyclones “C” Team stuffed Holland Patent 26-6 at Alumni Field on Sunday to remain undefeated.
The Cyclones’ team dominated in the first half. Ty Rifanburg opened the scoring in the first on a 28-yard TD run. Carter Rudnitski had a 10-yard TD run in the second, and Marcus Benjamin scored on a 20-yard gallop on the last play of the half, which sent the Cyclones to the locker room with a 19-0 halftime lead.
Drew Walsh was on the receiving end of a 40-yard pass play from Rifanburg to the Knights’ two, and then he finished off the drive with a two-yard jaunt. Walsh and Ryan Borden added point-after touchdown runs.
Cristabal Caballero, Noah Marvin, Walsh, Benjamin, Cameron Ivan, Rifanburg, Borden, Keegan Wright, and Owen Blackman played tough defense stopping the Golden Knights.
The Cyclones’ “B” team fell to a strong Canastota team, 18-6. Dalen Geislinger scored on a 27-yard touchdown run just before the half to knot the score at 6-6.
In the fourth quarter, trailing 12-6, the Cyclones marched to the Raiders’ six, but were stopped by the stiff Canastota defense
Paden Burlison led the Cyclones’ defense along with Jakob Franklin, Michael Carson, Cole Rifanburg, Jake Walsh, Carter Hubbard, and Andrew Barry playing good defense as well.
The Cyclones’ “A” team also remained undefeated downing Cazenovia, 29-6.
On the Cyclones’ second play from scrimmage, Matt Craig ran 14 yards to paydirt, and John Marvin kicked the two-point conversion. Two minutes later, Marvin returned a Lakers’ punt 45 yards to reach the endzone, and again kicked the two-pointers. Spencer Stone raced 30 yards for a TD in the second, with Alec Weaver add the conversion run for a 23-0 Cyclones halftime lead.
Tristan Rifanburg ended the Cyclones’ scoring in the third on a 21-yard TD run.
Spencer Stone, Jordan Vinal, Carlos Ithier, Dan MacIntosh, Craig, Matt Parrella, Rifanburg, Dan Zieno, Conner Eaton, Everett Thompson, Cole Brightman and Kevin Porack, among others, held the Lakers in check all day.

The Norwich Cyclones cheerleading squads will be competing Saturday, Oct. 2, in the Tri-Valley League Cheerleading competition at the Utica Auditorium.
Sunday, Oct. 3, the Cyclones play in Utica. The D team game begins at 10:30 a.m., C team at 12:30 p.m., B team at 2:30 p.m., and the A team showdown between two undefeated teams at 4:30 p.m.
