Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton to host grand opening Thursday
GILBERTSVILLE – The Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton Central School District will host a grand opening event Thursday to celebrate the completion of needed renovations and additions to the elementary, middle, and high schools. The grand opening will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. with tours given every half hour throughout the evening from the main lobby. The school is located at 693 State Highway 51, Gilbertsville. The grand opening will feature District Superintendent Glenn Hamilton accompanied by Todd Coleman, Mike DiPerna, Brad Talbot, and Arthur Van Gelder from the C&S Companies, the school’s construction manager. C&S will have a tent set up in the bus circle showcasing a slideshow of the project and an ice cream treat for all those in attendance.
Construction on the renovations began in the summer of 2009 and was completed the summer of 2010. Outdoor projects included the installation of a synthetic track, soccer field, bleachers, field event areas, and a press box. Also, the parking lots, student drop-off, and entire blacktop areas were upgraded. Improvements to the pre K-12 buildings included a music room addition, including a practice room for the school band. The elementary, middle, and high schools received new science, technology, and health rooms. Important updates were made to the district's fire alarm, telephone, and data distribution systems. Both the school building and the bus garage are now equipped with new roof systems with 25-year warranties. Additionally, a wash bay was installed inside the bus garage.
