NORWICH – American Baptists from parishes throughout New York will participate in a convention and biennial meeting beginning Sunday, Oct. 10 and concluding Tuesday, Oct. 12 at the First Baptist Church, located on 10 Park Place.

This is the second time the Norwich church has hosted the celebration, the first being back in 1984 when approximately 800 attended. Interim pastor Rev. Jim Horton, secretary for this region of American Baptist Churches for New York, said he looked forward to the three-day celebration as “a time of worship and inspiration.” Horton has been at First Baptist Church since 2008.

The 2010 convention is titled, “A Faith for These Times,” and will offer themed scripture from Colossians 2:1-50. Participants will attend worship services, musical performances, council business meetings, communal meals, workshops and a host of family activities. Facilitated discussion groups, titled, “Can We Talk?,” are offered from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday.
