Hamilton scores late goal to edge S-E, 2-1

Hamilton 2, S-E 1
SHERBURNE – Jessica Welsh’s second goal of the game with 8:36 remaining wa the difference in Hamilton’s victory over Sherburne-Earlville Wednesday.
Brooke Furner had assists on both of Welsh’s goals, the latter a picture-perfect crossing pass that was swept into the cage.
S-E, down by a goal at halftime, got the equalizer from Ashley Cappadonia, who hammered in a shot after a penalty corner entry pass from Kirstie Hackett.
“We had many opportunities tonight, we just didn’t finish well,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “We spent a lot of time in their defensive end. The kids are getting better and we’re controlling the ball better.”
S-E plays at Herkimer today.

Boys’ Soccer

MORRISVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville finished the 2010 season with a convincing shutout win over Morrisville-Eaton Wednesdsay.
Sophomore Carter Cole had a hand in all but one goal tallying two goals to go with two assists. Sam Lagoe added a single goal and an assists, and Oria Bays tallied. Senior Kyle Pierce completed the scoring with his first varsity goal in the final 30 seconds of the game.
“The future does look bright for us,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez, whose club finishes 4-11-1. “The guys that were scoring for us are back next year, and we have a good core group. Defense may be a question mark, and if we can get the commitment from players out of season, I think we can do well.”

GREENE – Rebecca Hanrahan started Wednesday’s match with B-G with 12 straight service points, and the Trojans went on to beat Bainbridge-Guilford, 25-12, 25-17, 25-16.
Hanrahan finished with nine aces, Marissa Pierce led with eight kills, and Jess Willard had four assists.
Raileigh Hall finished with four kills for B-G.
Greene (10-5) is at Harpursville Friday.

SIDNEY – Playing at Sidney Tuesday, Sherburne-Earlville improved its record to 12-3 overall (8-3 in league play) as six different players scored goals.
Leading scorer Briana Vibbard netted her 14th goal of the season. Jordan Van Althuis, Sarah Brown, Caitlynn Adams, Sierra Morris, and Cassie Lathrop also had goals in the non-league victory.
