Pires Flower Basket opens Winter Wonderland
NORWICH – Pires Flower Basket celebrates its 50th anniversary and kicks off the holiday season with the opening of its eighth annual Winter Wonderland display this week.
Originally located on what is now known as the Country Club Road, County Road 44, Pires was acquired in 1987 by current owner Rick Williams, who’s been in the floral business for 25 years.
Since then, the local florist shop has seen steady growth, primarily due to the fact that he “gets bored easily,” laughed Williams.
Now sporting 10 greenhouses – there were none when he first took over – Williams said the approximately 9,000 square feet he’s added to the business over the years have made Pires the largest greenhouse in Chenango County.
With a wide assortment of fresh flowers, plants, tropicals, gift baskets and contemporary, traditional and high-style arrangements, Pires is committed to offering quality service to its customers, Williams said.
“We greatly appreciate all of our loyal customers and their business throughout the years. This is one of our busiest times of the year and our Winter Wonderland is a great way to kick off the holiday season.”
Williams also wished to thank the dedicated members of his staff, many of whom have been with him for over a decade, including Elaine Zimmerman and Sue Meyers – the pairs’ work is vital to the design of the Winter Wonderland display – Cindy Martino, Kelly Slocum, Peter Constantinou and Julie Squires.
“They’re all extremely important in our day-to day-operations,” commented Williams.
The Winter Wonderland will feature a number of wide-ranging, holiday-themed displays of trees, floral arrangements and more, added Williams.
