S-E grad guides Trumansburg to first sectional title in 14 years
Perhaps the last great athletic accomplishment of Jason Hodge’s career at Sherburne-Earlville was his league championship game performance against Deposit when he threw a no-hitter for the Marauders’ title in 2002.
Hodge was the starting shortstop for four years at S-E, and also obviously pitched – quite well at that. Hodge was also a strong varsity soccer player, and in his senior year, was one of four Marauders under head coach Mike Rodriguez to score double-digit goals during the 2001 fall campaign.
We came across Hodge last week at Oneonta’s Soccer Hall of Fame fields. The Evening Sun was covering G-MU’s girls, who were in playing for the Section IV, Class D title. In the field adjacent to the one I was on, Trumansburg’s boys were facing Oneonta for the boys’ Class B title. I looked up to the field for a moment, and a young man – the head coach – said, “Hi Pat.”
