Community of Arts Festival planned for Saturday
NORWICH – The Artists’ Palette, partnered with Millennia Entertainment and Art-Is-On, will hold a Community of Arts Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Norwich branch of Morrisville State College, 20 Conkey Ave.
Artists’ Palette owner Jill Kraft said she first began planning for the event – promoted as a celebration of the community and the arts – in July, and called it an opportunity for local residents to enjoy some family-oriented holiday fun.
The event will feature performances by the Norwich Theater Company – singing holiday music from its most recent presentation, “Because It’s Christmas” – the Donna Frech Dancers, the Oasis Belly Dancers and a demonstration by the Latin Dance Club.
According to Kraft, Santa Claus will “arrive in style” at 2 p.m. for some free cookies and photographs with those children attending, and author Cathy Holden Robinson of Oxford will be selling and signing copies of her latest release, “The House of Roses,” from 2 to 4 p.m.
Approximately two dozen local artists and vendors will be on hand for the event, including the Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival, 6 On The Square, Guernsey Memorial Library, the Artists’ Palette, Art-Is-On and many more, stated Kraft.
There will be free face painting and coloring pages for the kids, plenty of holiday merchandise for sale, children’s crafts and several raffles, she added.
A Toys For Tots bin will be available for those who wish to donate a new, unwrapped toy for the annual collection effort and Kraft called the entire event a “kind of combination of goodwill, community and the arts.”
There is no cost of admission for the Community Arts Festival, which is open to the public, said Kraft, who wished to thank the local Price Chopper, Wal-Mart and Garf’s Deli for the refreshments.
