S-E offense catches fire in middle quarters

Sherburne-Earlville 67, Canastota 55
SHERBURNE – Playing its third game in four days, Sherburne-Earlville’s offense caught fire in the middle two periods in Monday’s victory over visiting Canastota.
Trailing the Raiders by one after one quarter, Cameron Yerton sparked the S-E offense hitting a trio of three balls in the second stanza, and Paul Romanenko came off the bench to score seven lifting the Marauders to a 35-30 halftime lead.
Yerton and Romanenko shared the scoring honors with 14 points, and Branden McDaniel added 12. “I was very pleased with our offensive balance tonight,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “It was Canastota’s first game and we withstood their early storm. We shot the ball better after the first quarter, and slowly but surely took the lead and pulled away.”
Sherburne-Earlville (2-1) hosts Waterville on Thursday.

Indoor Track and Field

Norwich sets three team records
CORTLAND – Norwich set three new indoor track and field records last Saturday at SUNY Cortland.
Sarah Spittler set new recoreds in the 3,000 meters (12:13.20) placing fourth in the event, and lowering the team reocrd in the 600 meters clocking 1:56.08.
Norwich’s 800-meter relay team of Patrick Taylor, Nate Ashton, Cameron Prime, and Matt Murray also set a new school record placing third in 1:41.12.
Murray earned the Tornado’s lone victory on the day capturing the 600 meters in 1:31.18, while Taylor placed second in the long jump (39-9).

Volleyball

Unadilla Valley 3, Hancock 1
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley won its Midstate Athletic Conference matchup with Hancock in four games Monday night, 25-15, 25-13, 17-25, 25-20.
Sumi Gysin served a team-high 10 aces and picked up 14 assists. Emily Hutchinson led at the net with nine kills and two stuff blocks.
UV will see Hancock again this week traveling to the Wildcats’ home court on Wednesday.

Kaylin Moseley had five kills for S-E, Candace Ward served three aces, and Ashley Rundell had four assists.
The Marauders host Hamilton on Wednesday.

OWEGO – Norwich caught fire early at Owego Bowl Monday afternoon, and rolled its best team score of the season totaling 3,087 pins to take all five points from the Indians.
Arden Hamstra had an opening-game 280 for Norwich on his way to a 684 series, and anchor Kevin Rooney’s 270 middle game highlighted his team-high 705 triple. Lead-off kegler, Ben Barnes, racked up a 615 series as Norwich surpassed its previous high pinfall this season by 142 pins.
