YMCA unveils 'Better You Challenge'
NORWICH – The Norwich Family YMCA is initiating a 12-week wellness program, aptly titled the “Better You Challenge.”
This program is designed to challenge individuals to achieve a higher level of fitness, a healthy body weight, and to add new activities into their lives. The program awards participants “activity points” for completing a fitness class, participating in a sports activity, keeping a weekly food journal, staying consistent with their workouts, losing a pound, and ultimately become better, fitter people.
At the end of every week, points will be tallied and awards given. Points will also be tallied at the end of every month, and bigger prizes will be awarded. Finally, at the end of the 12 weeks, the YMCA will award a participant a one-year free membership valued at approximately $400.
“We've learned that most people are far more likely to stick with an exercise program when there is a tangible reason for doing so,” said Norwich YMCA Fitness and Wellness Director, Shannon Gawronski. “Setting out a challenge gives people greater incentive to work hard and to stick with it. Weekly and monthly prizes are also fun ways to encourage participants to accumulate points.”
Gawronski and the YMCA are inviting friends in the community to donate some small and healthy prizes to this wellness initiative. Items may feature a company logo or draw people into your stores by way of coupons or gift certificates. A company’s name will be advertised as a participating sponsor on all our printed material and advertising. “We're also willing to waive the sign-up fee for a few individuals in a company who wish to participate should that company make a significant donation,” Gawronski said. “As you already know, healthy employees are happier, more reliable employees.”
The fee to participate in the Better You Challenge is $50 for YMCA members and $150 for non-members. The fee for non-members includes a 12-week membership at the Norwich YMCA.
Any further questions may be directed to Gawronski at the YMCA at 336-9622, extension 24.
