The new Blue Lamp glows as multi-purpose space
OXFORD – There’s a new venue in town, but its use can’t be defined as one thing, since it’s for many. Kimberly S. Begeal describes her new place as a multi-purpose space. The Blue Lamp is shining with its beautiful, earthy décor designed by the artist, Kim. A welcoming forest of trees seem to be growing inside, as branches reach out toward the ceiling decorated with tiny white lights. Ethereal fairy wings are seen here and there and you’d almost expect to see an elf poke his head out from behind a wall.
What goes on at The Blue Lamp? The space can be reserved for birthday celebrations; art lessons; yoga classes; or even a catered dinner! The location of The Blue Lamp, conveniently situated on LaFayette Park between 6 On The Square (6OTS) and Hoppie’s made it perfect for a recent “Dinner Before a Show” held on Dec. 18.
Begeal collaborated with her next door neighbors: Danielle Williamson, Hoppie’s ice-cream shop proprietor and caterer; and with 6OTS, to turn The Blue Lamp into a beautiful dining room for a buffet dinner before the Burns Sisters sang next door at 6OTS. Tables were covered with linen and multi-patterned china. Danielle prepared delicious entree choices like Chicken Marsala, Beef Tips, a White Veggie Lasagna, and of course, her famous broccoli salad. All along the walls were huge canvasses of Begeal’s fine artwork, setting a sophisticated scene perfect for the dining music lovers.
The Blue Lamp space is flexible. To find out more about exercise classes, art lessons, space reservations, or more, stop by at 4 LaFayette Park (formerly the Common Cents Thrift Shop) or call Begeal at 334-5976.
