Three new exhibits debut at EOH gallery

EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House Arts Center opens three new exhibits for the New Year!  Come and see the new works and meet the artists on Saturday, Jan. 8 from noon to 3 p.m.
As the days are now at their shortest, we spend more of our time in the dark, thinking and dreaming.  It is the perfect time to come and see Sky Kim’s “SAMSARA” - and celebrate the eternal cycle of life in the East Gallery!  “SAMSARA” –is a Sanskrit word literally meaning “continuous flow” that captures the cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth.  Sky Kim’s scrolls do have a “continuous flow” covering 30 feet in length.  She works in a series of abstract painting/drawings.  The unusual size of the works show that Kim wishes to suggest a new boundary to drawing with her watercolor pieces that begin with a 10 yard roll of paper.  Kim’s work is influenced by the loss of her twin sister at birth.  She believes that remembering her in her art is a way to complete her being in this life. Sky Kim is an alumnus of Pratt Institute in New York.
In the West Gallery Brooklyn artist, Deanna Lee, is inspired by non-Western art.  She fills her works with clusters of lines and waves to form masses that function as entities or characters that take on the roll of visual metaphors.  Sometimes the clusters are combined with motifs of clouds, waves, and hair from traditional Asian art.  Deanna Lee has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and was awarded an Asia Society travel grant to Vietnam and Cambodia.
Hamilton artist Charlotte Blanchard’s oil paintings take us far away ... you too can become a wishful traveler when you visit her exhibition of oil paintings in the EOH Arts Café ... a venue devoted to celebrating regional artists of central New York.  “When people see my paintings, I want them to imagine themselves walking into them, going along enjoying the sights, sounds and smells as they travel under arches, down narrow side streets, around the bends and living their own stories as they go along.”
The EOH galleries are free admission and open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, noon-3 p.m.  Visit www.earlvilleoperahouse.com or call (315) 691-3550 for more information.
The community is invited to attend the opening receptions these artists on Saturday, Jan. 8 from noon to 3 p.m. with refreshments (free).  The exhibits will run through Feb. 19.
Earlville Opera House events are made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency, and through the generosity of Earlville Opera House members.
