Minor gas leak closes Rt. 12
NORTH NORWICH – An accident between a snow plow and NYSEG equipment caused a natural gas fuel line leak Monday morning, prompting emergency crews to shut down State Highway 12 for about half an hour.
Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo said no one was injured in the incident.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said plow operator Kursten D. Spencer, 42, of Oxford, accidentally struck a natural gas fuel line at the NYSEG Substation in North Norwich while clearing snow.
The Sheriff’s Office and the North Norwich and Norwich Fire Department’s responded and closed off the area around the leak until NYSEG could shut down the pipe and repair the damage.
