Police stand off with armed man ends peacefully

PLYMOUTH – At about 10:07 a.m. Thursday, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office reported an armed standoff along State Highway 23 with a mentally ill man ended peacefully.

Undersheriff James Lloyd said the man surrendered to police after talking with negotiators throughout the night and into the morning.

“The incident came to a peaceful end. Initially the subject had barricaded himself inside his home armed with a .22 caliber rifle and made threatening gestures to approaching officers. He said he’d kill himself if they tried to come inside,” said Lloyd.
