First Baptist dinner to benefit mission to Haiti

NORWICH – The First Baptist Church, 10 West Park Place, will hold a Chicken and Biscuit Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, to benefit an upcoming missionary trip to Haiti.

For one week in late February, Shawn, Jodi and Marvin Chase will travel to the small island country – still recovering from a powerful, January of 2010 earthquake – as part of the American Baptist Church of the U.S.A. and N.Y.S.’s continuing presence in Haiti, according to First Baptist Reverend Dave Spiegel.

For decades, the American Baptist Church has played an active role in Haiti, said Spiegel, and the Marvin family will join approximately a dozen other members in the reconstruction effort.

The chicken and biscuit dinner will feature a variety of homemade salads and desserts, reported the reverend, and tickets for the event are $7 for adults and $4 for children ages five through twelve. There is no cost of admission for children under the age of five.

In addition, the church will be delivering meals to those who wish it, said Spiegel. Those interested should call 336-2509 in the days leading up to the dinner and 336-7926 the day of the event.
