Greene 73, Unadilla Valley 60
GREENE – Greene coach said it was nice to breathe easy at the end of the game. The Trojans, who have had five games this season decided by five points or less, had big nights from Jeff Carlin and Sam Adams to thwart the Storm Wednesday.
Carlin scored a season-high 25 points and dished out six assists, and Adams filled up the stat sheet with 20 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocked shots, and five steals. Carlin was 6-for-7 from the foul line in the fourth quarter, and Dan Treadwell added a pair of three-pointers to put the game out of reach.
“Adams has come back really nicely the past couple of games,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “Carlin made some good decisions with the ball and showed his maturity.”
UV entered the game riding a three-game winning streak, and it earned the respect of Smith. “UV is definitely a different team from last year,” Smith said. “They have a nice combo of guards, and a big boy inside. They have some nice players.”
Justin Hofer led UV (4-8) with 22 points, Mitch MacDuff added 17, and Brett Smith scored 14.

Norwich 52, Windsor 44
WINDSOR – Norwich bounced back from its first loss, hitting a series of free throws over the final two minutes to turn back upset-minded Windsor Wednesday night.
Dennis Oralls and Jon Foulds each went 4-for-4 from the line in the last quarter, and 12 of Norwich’s 16 points in the final stanza came from behind the charity stripe.
Windsor hung close led by forward Garrett Gaeta, and was within 41-38 with just over two minutes to play. Gaeta had 12 points in the last quarter keeping the Black Knights within striking range of the Tornado (11-1).
“Windsor played a tremendous game against us,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “We thought our pressure would get to them, but for the most part, they handled it well.”
Norwich clung to a 27-21 lead at halftime as the offense and defense were inconsistent. The Tornado held Windsor to four points in the third quarter, and finished the period on an 8-0 run to take an 11-point lead in the fourth.
“We played pretty good defense in the third, and offensively, we had better spacing and got into the seams of their defense,” Abbott said. “We found guys cutting to the basket and just played better overall.”
Norwich held on to the lead late in the game getting big steals from Jacob Kelly, Kyle Edwards, and Josh Favaloro. “I think the final score was a little closer than people anticipated,” Abbott said. “You have to give credit to Windsor and the way it played. Our guys responded to the challenge tonight. It wasn’t one of our best effort, but at crunch time, we made plays to win the game.”
Seth Thomsen scored 12 points to lead Norwich, while Oralls and Foulds had nine apiece. Norwich has played eight of its 12 games on the road winning seven of those away contests. “Winning that many road games with the schedule that we have, that says a lot about the effort and mental toughness of these guys,” Abbott said of his team.
Norwich hosts Horseheads on Friday.
