Biodiesel company still looking to lease space in former Elmer’s Glue plant
BAINBRIDGE – Auburn BioDiesel is still interested in leasing space in the former adhesive manufacturing facility in Bainbridge, according to the company’s president.
David Colegrove, who heads up the Skaneatles-based alternative fuel company, confirmed this week he still intends to lease a portion of the former Elmer’s Glue plant on County Road 38 in the Town of Bainbridge. The facility, which has sat vacant since 2006, was purchased at auction in August by Bob Allen of R.O. Allen & Son Portable Storage.
The Broome County business man payed $150,000 for the 54,000 square foot facility and the 19 acres on which it sits, less than a third of the property’s assessed value of $490,359.
Allen said he intends to open a satellite shop at the Bainbridge facility to support his existing business, which specializes in rehabilitating portable storage containers and trailers. A venture which he said would use, at most, one fifth of the interior space. He plans to lease the remaining square footage for commercial use.
Colegrove said his interest in the site was due to its proximity to both an existing bio-diesel processing facility (once operated by the Creative Energy Group) and feed dealers in Oneonta and Conklin. His original intention was to lease approximately 10,000 square feet of the facility to process soybeans which would then be used in the production of the alternative feul.
Earlier this week, he confirmed his interest in leasing space at the facility, but he plans to use it for a different purpose.
“The part of the project that was going to be far end – marketing and distributing a soil supplement that is useful to all growing, but particularly useful to organic growing of soybeans, has become the front end of our project,” explained Colegrove, referring to AZOMITE®, a natural mineral product mined in Utah.
“The marketing and selling is from Skaneateles, but its distribution will be from Bainbridge,” he reported.
More details on the venture will be forthcoming.
