More Chenango residents indicted by grand jury
NORWICH – The Chenango County grand jury met Wednesday and handed up several criminal indictments.
At the proceedings, the District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute and the jury decides if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person.
• Robert V. Shenise Jr. was indicted for fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony, and petit larceny. According to the indictment, Shenise stole a 2000 Chevy Blazer from a parking lot and pornographic material from an adult store on Oct. 7.
• Jeremy Q. Decker was indicted for third degree sexual abuse, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Allegedly Decker sexually molested a toddler in the Town of Coventry Nov. 17.
• Bradley J. Romano, 26, was indicted for menacing a police officer, a class D felony, third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony, two counts of fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, and one count of resisting arrest, misdemeanors.
At about 2:25 p.m. Dec. 13, the New York State Police at Sidney responded to 1472 County Route 35 in the Town of Guilford, in an attempt to locate Romano, who was wanted on a bench warrant for second degree assault, a class D felony.
While at the residence, Romano pointed a 16-gauge shotgun at the troopers, according to police. As the troopers took cover, Romano fled the residence on foot, leaving the shotgun behind. A foot pursuit ensued and Romano was located and apprehended a short time later on Joslyn Road in the Town of Guilford. The shotgun was recovered from the residence, police said.
• William A. Liberati was indicted on seven counts of first degree criminal sex act, class B felonies, after allegedly engaging a 9-year-old female in seven separate incidents of sexual conduct between Sept. 2010 and Jan. 2011 in the Town of Coventry.
Liberati was arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
• Jonathan S. Bryant was indicted for second degree assault, a class D felony, and third degree assault, a misdemeanor.
The indictment claims Bryant, who is incarcerated at the Valley Ridge Center for Intensive Treatment (CIT), struck an employee in the head with a chair Jan. 2, causing injury.
• Brett M. Adams was indicted for fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. Allegedly Adams stole a pistol from a victim in North Norwich Jan. 6.
• Christopher W. Casto was indicted for first degree promotion of prison contraband while incarcerated in the Chenango County Correctional Facility. According to the indictment, Casto was caught with an amount of methamphetamines rolled inside a plastic bag and coffee filter in November.
• Co-defendants Jennifer R. Murray and Jessica Maxson were each charged with two counts of third burglary, class D felonies, and two counts of petit larceny. Allegedly they stole items from two different properties: one in the Town of Pharsalia in September and another in the Town of Pitcher in October. According to the indictment, the two stole a shotgun, a 32-inch TV, liquor, tools and a snowmobile equipment.
• Jason R. Allen was indicted for second degree assault, a class D felony, and resisting arrest after allegedly injuring a Chenango County Sheriff’s deputy while the officer attempted to take him into custody. The indictment claims Allen caused injury to the officer’s wrist in a scuffle that took place Nov. 7, in the Town of Norwich.
