Norwich home destroyed in fire

NORWICH – A Norwich family lost their home Monday after their doublewide’s roof collapsed during a fire.

The Norwich Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 10:24 a.m. Monday to 510 Oxford Road in the Town of Norwich.

Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo said crews arrived to find the southern part of the home ablaze. He said firemen tried to fight the fire from the inside, but were forced to retreat from the building as it became unstable and the roof collapsed.

The owners had just returned home as the fire began and called 911, the chief said.
