Oxford Honor Society aims to restock food pantry shelves with basketball food drive

OXFORD – Fans who attend Friday’s boys basketball match up between Oxford and Chenango Valley will also be doing their part to help two local food pantries, thanks to the Oxford High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
According to the student organization’s advisor, Jane Ford, the winter months are a tough time for area food pantries. Shelves are bare, but at the same time there is an increased level of need in the community. Recognizing this need, honor society members will hold a food drive in conjunction with Friday night’s boys basketball game at Oxford High School.
Those attending the game will have the choice of either paying the regular admission charge or making a donation of non-perishable food items. Students will be asked to bring either one food item or pay $1; adults are asked to bring two non-perishable items or $2. All proceeds, including both cash and food, will benefit the Oxford and McDonough food pantries.
The JV game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity match up at approximately 7:30.
