Smithville man dies after bar fight

SMITHVILLE – A 31-year-old Smithville man is dead after a bar fight, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department.
Chance E. Howey was involved in a “physical altercation” at Seeber’s Tavern in Smithville Flats early Sunday morning, according to a press release. Sheriff Ernest Cutting says Mr. Howey was taken back home after the fight, but family members called 911 around 1 p.m. yesterday to report that he was unresponsive. Mr. Howey was transported by Greene Ambulance to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he was pronounced dead early this morning.
An autopsy will be conducted at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse on Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and asks that anyone with information call 337-1970 or 337-1924 or visit www.chenangosheriff.us and click on the “Crime Tip” link.
