Bainbridge-Guilford 45, Walton 36
WALTON – Bainbridge-Guilford clinched a tie for second place in the Midstate Athletic Conference handing Walton just its second division loss of the season Friday night.
The Bobcats, Warriors, and Oxford all have two division losses, although Walton still has a date with Unatego before finishing its regular season schedule.
Randi Conway paced B-G with 19 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Conway went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the last quarter to help seal the win, and Raileigh Hall also made a pair of key free throws.
“Randi had a lot of dribble penetration and hit some nice shots,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “Shania (Vandermark) was in foul trouble. Raileigh came off the bench and did a nice job. She played good defense and got on the boards.”
B-G used a zone defense against a Walton team that typically is dangerous from beyond the three-point line. The Warriors had six three balls in the contest, but only nine field goals in the game. “Going into the game I thought we would play a lot of man defense because Walton can hit the threes,” Conway said. “We held them to 16 in the first half and our defense was playing well in the zone. We were getting out to shooters and kept battling. We did give up some threes and I like man defense, but sometimes you have to go with what’s working.”
Chelsea Tewksbury scored nine points off the bench, and Vandermark had a team-high 10 rebounds.
