Second annual Trailblazers banquet to benefit Friends of the NRA
NORWICH – The local chapter of Friends of the National Rifle Association (NRA) will officially kick-off its 2011 fundraising campaign with the second annual Trailblazers banquet, from 5 to 10 p.m. on May 20 at the Norwich American Legion, 29 Sheldon St.
Tickets for the event are now on sale, as are tickets for the Trailblazers’ annual “Gun of the Year” raffle, according to local Friends of the NRA chairperson David Francis.
Established in 1992, the Friends of the NRA fundraising program benefits a number of shooting safety, hunting safety and educational programs, as well as environmental conservation projects, youth programs and range development, stated Francis.
Since its inception, the program has held over 12,000 events, raising over $162 million, half of which was allocated to fund projects on the state level. A portion of the money raised by the organization returns to the local level as well, added Francis, over $6,000 in NRA grants last year.
Those grant moneys benefit a wide variety of people, according to the NRA Foundation’s Mission Statement, including children, youth, women, individuals with physical disabilities, gun collectors, law enforcement officers, hunters and competitive shooters.
“The whole event is a win-win for everyone, not only gun owners, and it benefits everybody,” said Francis. “Everybody wins.”
Trailblazers co-chair and Vice President of the Chenango County Sportsman’s Federation John Fuller concurred and said the moneys raised have “a ripple effect, from the national level to the local level.”
The banquet will feature several drawings throughout the night for a wide variety of prizes, and both live and silent auctions will be held for firearms, artwork, sportsman’s merchandise and shooting and hunting opportunities and trips.
There are a number of ticket packages available for the banquet and tickets must be ordered by April 27. Checks should be made payable to Trailblazers NRA and mailed with a completed order form to John Fuller, 739 County Road 33, Norwich, NY. Tickets may also be purchased by credit card at Heading Due North, 97 East Main St. For more information contact Francis at 334-1960 or visit www.friendsofnra.org.
